Type 2 Fun on Bell Mountain | 13+ Miles, One Epic Sunrise, and Locked Out in the Rain

Bell Mountain doesn’t give up its views for free. 7.66 miles and 1,746 feet of climbing over 8 hours to reach the top — but the payoff was a perfect night in the hammock and a sunrise that made every step worth it.

The 5.78 miles back down went quicker (4:10), even with the almost mile wrong turn I made, and I was feeling pretty good about the whole trip right up until I got back to the trailhead… and locked my keys in the car. So there I sat, in the rain, waiting an hour for the car service — only to hear my door unlock about three minutes before they found the trailhead parking lot.

Shout out to Blackie’s Auto Service, who still handed me some water when they arrived. Above and beyond.

That’s Type 2 Fun for you: miserable in the moment, a great story later.
